These things may or may not be directly related to school, but they are things that have happened or I've discovered since the semester started at the end of August.
*75% of the students at UVSC don't know that it's polite to walk on the right side of narrow hallways and staircases. Next semester, I'm going to stay on the right side. I will not cave to pressure in the slow-paced game of chicken. And if they almost run into me, without even flinching, I'm going to say "In America, we drive on the RIGHT side of the road, plonker!" Also, they don't know that it's impolite for 3-5 people to spread themselves across the middle of a narrow staircase and have a conversation.
*EVERYONE walks around school with an iPod, and it's scary how often I pass somebody and can hear the music from their earbuds louder than the music in my earbuds.
*No matter how many times I "meet" her, Elaine in the theatre department introduces herself to me EVERY TIME. And it usually goes something like this: "Jeremy, you don't know me. I'm Elaine. I'm friends with Mindy, and she talks about you ALL the time...."
*I can be the #1 ranked student all semester in an intermediate algebra class without really studying at all outside of class. And my teacher gave me a candy filled Santa Claus thing for it, too!
*Girls can claim to be more mature than boys all they want, but I had not one, but TWO girls (that have been verified by people they confided in- obviously not the right choices to confide in...) that for some weird reason were pining for me this semester, and both of them resorted to junior high tactics. Including minor stalking on the one's part...
*When you're taking 19 credit hours + teaching piano or youth theatre every afternoon + music directing two shows + arranging/conducting music for another show, here are SOME of the things you have no time to do: seeing friends, cleaning your room, going to movies, go to the temple regularly, exercising, blogging, getting an oil change, getting your tires rotated, keeping up with your favorite TV shows, getting regular haircuts, keeping up with all of your homework, updating your piano website, getting an early start on Christmas shopping (or a decent start, for that matter)...
*It's really interesting to see how your relationships with friends play out when you have no time. Basically, my friends can be divided into two groups right now: the friends who miss ME, and the friends who miss the things we do. While they're still all my friends, and they're great people, it feels a lot nicer to hear "I miss you!" than to hear "When are we going to see that movie/watch that video/run away to Vegas/rob a 7-11/etc."
*LDS garments are completely see-through. Seriously. Nipples, belly button, chest hair, freckles- NOTHING IS HIDDEN!
*Pearl of Great Price is the smallest part of the LDS standard works. It was also the most amazing Institute class I've ever taken, and really helped to balance the stress of my other classes (and technically, counting Institute, I had 21 credit hours).
*Despite the major stress of this semester, I'm still happier than I've been in a long time, and when all is said and done, unless I majorly botch my finals, I should be getting a really good GPA. Next semester, I'm taking fewer classes, though. And I will try to be better about saying no to people.
