Random List on a Rainy Valentine's Day

I'm at work right now. I would normally NEVER be able to blog while I'm at work, but I'm currently just listening through as the computer takes the piano track for Cinderella that I just finished editing and records it into a wav file so I can get it to the theatre that hired us to do the tracks. That means I have over an hour where I can't really do anything else productive. I'm all caught up on Facebook and Twitter, so I figured I should check in here. Why not, eh? Here are random thoughts and blog catch-ups.

  • We got new puppies. I'm not a huge dog person, but I like little dogs. These ones are Dorkies (Dachsund/Yorkie mix) and they won't ever be too big. They're brothers, they're named Lambert and WALL-E, and their names fit their personalities.
  • I just finished auditions for The Secret Garden, for which I'm the music director at HCTO. We saw at least 300 people over the course of 2 nights, and I'm pretty sure more than half were little girls wanting the part of Mary. If I ever again hear the songs "Castle on a Cloud" or "Tomorrow", I will throw something at the person singing. Don't test this.
  • I have auditions for My Son Pinocchio at the SCERA this week, for which I'm also the music director. I need to start collecting projectiles...
  • My nephew, Braden, goes into the Missionary Training Center tomorrow for his 2 year mission to Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm going to miss that kid. And I SUCK at writing to missionaries (or to anyone, for that matter) (or to any blogs), so I guess I'll talk to you in 2 years, Braden!
  • I'm going to London for work soon. Well, if I remember to get my passport renewed. I should probably do that, since the company has already bought the airline tickets and hotel...
  • I got released from the nursery in our ward (proof that God DOES hear prayers) and reassigned as a gospel doctrine teacher. This means I get to find ways to compare the gospel to Lost, Indiana Jones, Disneyland, etc. So far, nobody has gone apostate. And at least I'm not teaching false doctrine. Just making awesome comparisons.
  • I get to see Kelly Clarkson AND Boyce Avenue next month. And I have a hot date to BOTH.
  • Cinderella is probably one of the weakest shows Rodgers & Hammerstein ever wrote, but at least it's not The King and I, which I loathe. Despite that, I'm on a HUGE R&H kick lately. Can't wait to see South Pacific at HCTO this year.
  • I don't like feeling pressured to celebrate Valentine's Day, so I'm glad I have a wife who is relaxed about it. On the flipside, I can't stand it when people call it "Singles Awareness Day" and have negative feelings. However, I also can't stand it when people say things like "I don't like Valentine's Day because I feel like you should make your partner know they're loved EVERY day of the year." On that token, I'm not going to celebrate Christmas anymore, because I'm thankful for Jesus every day of the year. I'm not going to celebrate Easter anymore, because I'm thankful for the resurrection every day of the year. I'm not going to celebrate any birthdays anymore because I'm grateful everyone in my life is alive every day of the year. I'm not going to celebrate Independence Day because I'm grateful for freedom every day of the year. I'm not going to celebrate Halloween anymore because I do theatre, and people dress up in costumes and some embrace their inner sluts every day of the year...
Happy Valentine's Day!
