Pshaw to Trash and Matt. As if I wasn't planning to mention this at some point. It just needed its own post!
I have always been a fan of old time karaoke, or in the words of our dear friend Grace Adler, "an old-fashioned piano party." I very rarely have a chance to do these, and my piano skills have dwindled to the point where I can't BS songs very often and have to use sheet music in order to really play much.
A month or two ago, a copy of the score to Disney's On the Record landed in my lap. If you don't know what On the Record is, SHAME ON YOU! It is what first introduced me to my future wife Ashley Brown (sorry, Trash. I love you, but you'll never be Mary Poppins. And besides, I have a feeling this marriage won't last to see the new year anyway...)
Since the only people I know who might love OtR as much as me are Matt and his sister, Emily, I HAD to share with them. As soon as they found out about the score, we talked about how fun it would be to have a party and sing it together.
After our wedding dinner Friday night, Trash and I went to Matt's house. After reenacting scenes from My Dinner with Andre with High School Musical dolls
I got the idea to play a funny prank on Emily. I had Matt get his copy of OtR and then we sat down at the piano. Trash had my phone ready to make a video to send Emily to make her jealous, and suddenly Emily came through the door! It was as if she was carried on the winds of fate.
We immediately jumped into an old-fashioned piano party, and you know what? It was great. It was really late, we were all tired, but we had a blast nonetheless. Besides On the Record, there were songs from Missy Higgins, Vanessa Carlton, Peter Gabriel, and my new favorite piano party selection, "Apologize" by OneRepublic (Special Ed mix).
I officially love Old-Fashioned Piano Parties, and I've decided that I need more of them in my life.
Also, I need more music like this in my life, that makes me laugh so hard I cry.
Oh, and everybody say "Happy Birthday" to my blog-stalking brother, Glenn. You know, the one who cared enough to actually do one of the things from my list of demands...
And the Emmy goes to: Trash Ball!!
ReplyDeleteBest. Post. Ever.
I predict that video will go down in history as one of the classic videos of all time! Sorry Trash. :)
When's our next party?!
1. That video is embarrassing/funny. I don't mind that it's going down in history. It's still embarrassing. Seriously. But I don't mind.
ReplyDelete2. HOW DO YOU KNOW I'LL NEVER BE MARY POPPINS. You don't know that. I resent you.
3. I'm filing for divorce at 11pm on December 23. Just you wait.
HA. You are funny. Happy Birthday brother Glen who actually cares enough about Jeremy... :)
