C.H.umP.S.

The other day, as I was driving home from work, I saw a beat-up old SUV with bumper stickers all over it tailing somebody in the fast lane of I-15. It was around the bend between Orem/Provo, where I often see cops sitting on the side as a reminder to slow down on the curve. I, of course, got excited thinking that the cops would catch this jerk, but was disappointed when there were no cop cars parked there.

However, there WERE flashing lights suddenly. On the SUV. Turns out, it was an undercover cop tailing another guy so he could give him a ticket.

?!

Disclaimer: I've never been pulled over by an unmarked car.

But they bug the crap out of me.

Is the purpose of the cops/highway patrol to make money off tickets, or to keep people safe?

Which is going to keep more people safe? Seeing a marked, obvious cop car on the side of the road, reminding you to slow down, or seeing them and not knowing they're even a cop until they've already pulled somebody over, thereby eliminating the chance that they'll nab any other drivers until they're done with that?

Thanks for using our tax dollars the most efficient way, UHP!!!
