Coat’s Out of the Bag

Remember about a month ago, when I posted this?

I was going through a phase where I was getting lots of job offers. I’ve had to turn some down, and some haven’t come to fruition yet. But, some are happening, and I’m pretty excited.

First off, I’m “music directing” As You Like It for the Orem Hale. There are a handful of songs, and I’m going to arrange them somewhat (and possibly compose some) and teach them to the cast. There should be live musicians, too, so I’ll get to arrange some parts as well. Chris Clark is directing, and I love working with Chris. There are also some great people in the cast, including some that I’ve never actually worked with. (April! We’re finally doing a show together. I don’t think you sing, though, according to my list. BLAH!) [Brett! Same, except I think you sing!]

After that, I’ll have some time off (unless some other offers come through) while I work on Charlie Brown for youth theatre, and then I’ll audition and start rehearsing for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which I’ll be directing/music directing for the SCERA Shell. This is a big deal for me. I’ve directed at the SCERA before (Bunnicula. Anyone? Anyone see it?) I technically directed Some Enchanted Evening, too, but I don’t really count that since I stepped in at the last minute to cover for some Nutt who wasn’t doing her job, and I really didn’t know what I was doing at that point. However, both of those were in the Showhouse. The Shell shows have bigger audiences, and this year is actually the 25th anniversary season, so they have some cool stuff planned. My friend, Shawn, is choreographing, and we work really well together. Originally, we had offered to co-direct the show for the SCERA, but they didn’t want Shawn to have that much responsibility because of all of his summer duties.

So, even if some of the other jobs I’m hoping will work out don’t end up happening, I’ll still be busy for the next several months. Now, if someone could just offer me a teaching job for the fall. Hopefully around here, so I can make sure some of the other things work out… I have a few interviews scheduled for the next few weeks. Wish me luck!

  1. I think I am singing. Something about a dead deer. I'm a lord at the time. I think. I hope so. Just cause I want to be in a rehearsal space with you.

  2. I don't sing in the show, but I'm happy your doing the music. That means that it will be wonderful! And me too, I love working with with Chris!

  3. Haven't seen the play Bunnicula, but I've read the book many times, and love it.

Nothing much better than vampire bunnies, no?
