Today in church, I had a visit from Aja and Megan. I would like to point out at this moment, that they had the choice to sit by me or by Holly, since Holly was stubborn and wouldn't come and sit on the side of the room with the cool kids. They chose me.
Probably the reason that they chose me was that church visits from Megan and Aja mean that my inner poet is released in the form of attention deficit in Sacrament meeting. I wrote 8 haiku for them, and they rather enjoyed them. It got me thinking: "where better to share my poetry than my blog?!" However, Aja has the ones I wrote today. So instead, I'll share the ones I wrote for Megan's birthday last year. I'll have you know, though, that the ones I wrote today were mostly inspired by actual phrases or topics that I heard from the Sacrament speakers. The paranthetical commentary/explanations between some poems is by none other than Megan, too (since I stole them from her Facebook note where she posted to immortalize them last year).
Birthdays are like cake
Well, I suppose not really
But you can eat it!
Birthday cake tango
We dance tonight for Megan
Don't step in the frosting!
Italian sodas
Drink to celebrate the joy
Which is called Megan
Megan makes brownies
I hope they're not "special" ones
It's the Sabbath, yo!
Megan's nice red shoes
Seem to me to be calling
"There's no place like home!"
(For Heidi)
Heidi, red viking
Conqueror of the Arctic
We claim as our friend.
(For Aja)
Aja drinks sodas
And sometimes gets quite tipsy
Dance, you monkey! Dance!
(The next refer to Katherine Hepburn)
Katherine, oh Katherine!
Calla lillies are blooming
Why don't you love me?
Katherine, my love
One day we'll be together
Darn that Spencer T!
(Explaining that the reuniting of the Spice Girls is one of the "signs of the times")
The end of the world
Is soon to be upon us
In the form of Spice.
(And finally, where does he find all the time to write these?)
Jeremy is bad
He has a hard time list'ning
In his Sunday School
I so wanted to join all of you. Really. But, everyone thinks we are dating as it is. In fact, three people mentioned it yesterday. Not that I wouldn't date you... I would!!! But you know how it is--

Girls are so catty
This is my favorite haiku. It's really deep and meaningful:
ReplyDeleteHaikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense
Refrigerator.
Ah, Jeremy. I will talk to Aja and get you the church haiku forthwith. I hope you will include my own Haiku-ic condemnation of the "Zoros" on the Rameumptum. And no, I'm not pressing charges that you ripped material off of my Facebook page. It just isn't cricket to nail a friend, especially an author. I see writers as deserving a kind of immunity (based on the fact that they are the repositories of truth and beauty).
ReplyDeleteOh Jer, those poems are pretty awesome. You need to quit showing off. Leave some talent for the rest of us. :)
ReplyDeleteTian,
ReplyDeletePeople think that Jeremy has a tall artsy long distance girlfriend. Go sit by him.
Jeremy,
I want a haiku!!! I hate missing fun.
Jer, I love when I randomly read your blog after a couple of days and get to laugh!! Thanks for making me smile :)
