I'm not going to be able to go to Disneyland for a while, though, and that's okay. Babies shouldn't go to Disneyland when they're too young, and I have a baby now.
I have a baby now.
Isn't that weird? Most people my age in Utah have at least 4 by now. I was starting to think I'd never have kids, and I was trying to talk myself out of wanting any. Who wants their dad coming to their high school graduation with a walker or a Jazzy?
I'm glad I wasn't able to completely talk myself out of it.
She's perfect. She was TINY- IS tiny. After the size of all the babies in my family, I was expecting a 10 pounder. But she was only 6, and was only a week and a half early. It's kind of fun to have a baby that fits nicely in one of my giant hands, though. The giant hands I passed on to her. But luckily, she's got long fingers, unlike me. Hopefully, that means she'll be a KILLER pianist. Wide hands and long fingers - Rachmaninoff will be easy. And she definitely has the passion for Rach.
She likes Disney movies. She likes James Bond movies. Alright, she pretty much likes everything we watch. Except Dance Moms. Abby Lee Miller's voice makes her upset. She also got really upset and started crying when Anne Hathaway won her Oscar on Sunday and gave that ridiculous speech. That's my girl.
She looks really cute in Batman outfits or wrapped in Batman blankets. (Don't worry. All of her Batman stuff is girl-appropriate.)
She loves her nursery. At pretty much the last minute before she was born (her early arrival messed up my painting day), we decided to paint her room sky blue with clouds. What little girl named Lucy DOESN'T want to live in the sky? She loves to just chill in there and stare at the calming blue and white. The first week she was home from the hospital, I painted it, and I had fun using sponging methods I learned in my stagecraft classes in college. Gotta put that degree to use somehow!
The dogs seem to like her. They're always wanting to be close to her, and when she cries, they worry about her. If we ever let her cry something out, WALL-E gives us a look of "hey, dummies - aren't you going to do something about this?"
The dogs have felt a little displaced, and they've had some regression moments (seriously, Lambert - STOP pooping on the carpet!), but things are getting better all the time. I'm grateful for the year we had with them (almost exactly - their adoption date is the day before the baby's birthday) to prep us for kids. So far, having a baby is a lot like having a puppy. A lot of people warned us about how hard it is to always be worried about another person and meeting their needs, but if you're a good pet-owner, that's how you are with your animals. Now, if she could just be as easy as the dogs when she starts getting a personality and starts talking. At least she won't chew holes in the walls...I hope...
Today, Lucy is one month old. So far, it's been amazing to have a sweet little girl in our house.
One month down. Here's to many more!
